April 14
So I was remembering what else happened on April 14th in the past, and recalled that it is a day of impending doom. Just look at what has happened:
- 1865, Lincoln is shot and dies the next day.
- 1912, Titanic hits the iceberg and sinks the next day.
- Any year, U.S. income taxes are due the next day.
- 1981, The first space shuttle (Columbia) lands for the first time.
- 1993, The human genome project is completed.
- Some crazy duck rider was born.

A bit of trivia: In the U.S. taxes are only due the next day if April 14th falls on a Monday through, I think, Thursday. Taxes are never due on the weekend, so this year they are due on the 17th, a Monday.
Well, if the 14th is a Sunday, then they are due on the 15th still. So that's 5/7 of the time. Good enough for a government study.
